AnimeDepot.com rocks
November 28th, 2005,A few years ago, the MoonHowler Kids dragged me to Wizard World Chicago. I was still living in Pittsburgh, and this was towards the end of my relationship, when I was taking an excessive number of roadtrips and spending an obscene amount of money on toys in the feeble hope that I could somehow buy my happiness back.
I must have spent around $500 that first day of WizWorld, mostly on DVDs and a couple of bags (the kind with anime-logos on them). When the dealer’s room closed, we all headed up to Milwaukee for a concert. Only, when we got back to the car we found the window broken, and both of my new bags missing (along with the hundreds of dollars in comics, books, art and DVDs that were in them).
Then it turns out that, since I was using the credit card I first signed up for in college, I didn’t even have theft protection on those purchases. At the very least, the MH van was insured, so they didn’t really lose out.
I went around the next day to all the dealers, telling them what had happened, and begging for favors. I was completely distraught. Everybody pretty much responded “Why should I have to suffer for your bad luck?”
Everybody except Anime Depot. Bill and his wife were totally empathetic, and assured me that they would do everything they could to help out. Bill even gave me his private email address and told me, “When you scrape together the cash again, you get ahold of me and I’ll give you the best deal I can on that stuff you lost.” Then they sat me down and talked anime with me until I felt better, telling everybody who browsed their booth what had happened (causing quite a few geek girls to give me extra-squeezy hugs).
Of course, shortly after that my life descended into complete financial instability, so I never did get ahold of him until last week. I found his email address on the back of a flyer, worried over it a bit, and finally sent off a note asking if he remembered me.
The Anime Depot guys remembered me, and even remembered the offer they made (although I hadn’t brought it up specifically, I had phrased my email in the form of Just Letting You Know I’m Still Alive And Appreciated What You’d Done).
These guys were incredibly nice to me that day, and two years later they remembered me and were still committed to helping me get over that traumatic little aside. I’ve ordered from them before, and they are very reliable. So, please help me repay them for their kindness with some word-of-mouth advertising.
Anime Depot. These guys rock.
